Updated: Jul 8, 2025

We, the INRoL at SNU, are looking for several new students joining from the spring of 2019. We are looking for students, who are self-motivated, excited about new "magic-like" technologies, aiming for rigor/precision of research, and willing to learn new things and embark new thinking on their own.

Successful applicants are expected to have solid understanding and/or strong interests in the fields of robotics, control, dynamics and mechatronics as applied to any of application topics in INRoL. Although the openings are relevant to any research areas of INRoL, we are particularly interested in the applicants for the following areas:

- robot simulation and haptic/VR rendering ,rooted on mechanics, control theory, FEM and machine learning;

- cooperative robot control, particularly in real-world industrial settings;

- aerial operation and manipulation, from new system design, modeling/control to UI design;

- autonomous mobility, localization and multi-sensor fusion;

- industrial control applications with focus on smart manufacturing and industry 4.0.

If you are interested, please send your CV (with the list of courses taken and their grades; and any other information deemed helpful) to Prof. Dongjun Lee (djlee at snu ac kr).

A bad habit I have is opening a game, playing for ten minutes, and moving on. Connect Master is the exception because it’s not about fast reactions at all. It’s about staring at these little face cards, testing ideas, swapping them around, and suddenly realizing that the connection is the shape of their nose or the color of the background. That aha feeling is doing something to my brain.

It’s helpful to see the research areas and opportunities clearly outlined for prospective students. I often listen to academic announcements with an OpenDocument reader.

The emphasis on "magic-like" technologies really jumped out at me—that's such a perfect way to describe the feeling of working at the intersection of haptics, VR, and control theory. I've been tinkering with visual feedback in simulation work lately, and getting the texture and tonal quality just right can completely change how convincing a virtual environment feels. Speaking of that, I stumbled on a matchafilter that applies an olive-green treatment with some interesting distortion effects, and it made me think about how much subtle visual processing matters for perception in robotic interfaces. Best of luck to everyone applying; the cooperative robot control projects sound particularly impactful.

My weekend routine changed because of Bubble Word Jam. Instead of scrolling social media, I sort words into categories. It feels more productive somehow. The lives system also keeps me from binging too much.
